Classic Buttermilk Pie Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pie Crust:
    • Roll out pie dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish.
    • Press the dough into the dish and trim any excess overhang. Crimp the edges if desired.
    • Refrigerate the crust while preparing the filling.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Prepare the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and lemon juice (if using).
  4. Combine the Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking continuously until smooth and creamy.
  5. Pour the Filling into the Crust:
    • Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust, being careful not to overfill.
  6. Bake the Pie:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake the pie on the center rack for 50-60 minutes until the filling is set and golden brown on top.
    • The center should have a slight jiggle when gently shaken.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing.
    • Dust the top with powdered sugar if desired.
