Homemade Yeast-Raised Doughnuts

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in the sugar, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one larger, one smaller for the center).
  7. Place the doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (180°C).
  9. Carefully fry the doughnuts, a few at a time, for about 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  10. Remove the doughnuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  11. Dust the warm doughnuts with powdered sugar or glaze them with your favorite icing.
