Instructions:
- Prepare the Cabbage Leaves:
- Cut out the stalk of the cabbage with a sharp knife and carefully peel off the cabbage leaves. Cook them in salted water for about 10 minutes until they are pliable.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the minced beef, soaked toast bread, egg, minced garlic, mustard, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and paprika powder. Mix well to form a seasoned meat mixture.
- Assemble the Kohlrouladen:
- Divide the meat mixture into portions and form small meat rolls.
- Wrap each meat roll with a blanched cabbage leaf and secure with toothpicks.
- Cook the Kohlrouladen:
- In a large pan, fry the Kohlrouladen until browned on all sides. Transfer them to an ovenproof dish.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- Cut the remaining cabbage into small pieces. In the same pan, sauté the cabbage pieces with the remaining onion and tomato paste.
- Deglaze the pan with a little water and thicken the sauce with instant gravy mix. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bake the Kohlrouladen:
- Pour the prepared sauce over the Kohlrouladen into the ovenproof dish.
- Braise the Kohlrouladen in the preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, until the meat is cooked through and the flavors have melded.
