Salisbury Steaks with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom Gravy

Method of Preparation

Preparing Salisbury Steaks

  1. Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cooking the steaks: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Preparation of Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  1. Cooking the potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 20 minutes. Add the garlic to the saucepan during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  2. To make the mash: Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pan. Add the milk, butter, salt and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Preparation of Mushroom and Onion Sauce

  1. Cooking the vegetables: In the same pan used for the steaks, add olive oil if necessary. Add the onion and mushrooms and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
  2. To make the sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring to coat. Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Finishing: Return the steaks to the pan, spooning over the sauce. Simmer for another 5 minutes to reheat the steaks.
