Method of Preparation
Preparing Salisbury Steaks
- Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 oval patties.
- Cooking the steaks: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Preparation of Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- Cooking the potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 20 minutes. Add the garlic to the saucepan during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- To make the mash: Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pan. Add the milk, butter, salt and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
Preparation of Mushroom and Onion Sauce
- Cooking the vegetables: In the same pan used for the steaks, add olive oil if necessary. Add the onion and mushrooms and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- To make the sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring to coat. Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Finishing: Return the steaks to the pan, spooning over the sauce. Simmer for another 5 minutes to reheat the steaks.
